The Israeli occupation forces take advantage from the war on Gaza and torture women detainees in Israeli prisons

The IPS took an advantage from war on Gaza and started to torture and abuse women detainees in Israeli prisons, in the light of the brutal attack mounted against Gaza on October 7, 2023.

The Commission reported the details of storming Damoun prison that took place on October 19, where many jailers broke into their section, destroyed everything and confiscated the tables, chairs, kitchen tools, food items and the paintings on the walls.

The jailers started to beat them and isolated some of them when they tried to confront the attack. In addition, they sprayed tear gas, without taking into account the minors and elderly detainees who suffer from asthma and allergy.

It is worth mentioning that women detainees are subjected to heavy penalties since 16 days, represented in:
 1. Deprivation of contacting their families and prevention of family visits
 2. Deprivation of lawyers visits
 3. Deprivation of getting out to the prison’s yard
4. Deprivation of using the canteen
5. Confiscation of electrical appliances
 6. Reduction of shower period to 15 minutes for each room
7. Repeated break-ins to the rooms and threats of death

It is worth mentioning that there is a massive campaign of arrests implemented under the pretext of incitement on social media.

It is also worth mentioning that there are currently (50) women held in Israeli prisons, aside from those who are under custody and interrogation. These figures are subject to change at any moment.

 Ramallah

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Society Prisoner’s Club stated that the IPS Seeks to impose and create retaliatory measures against detainees, to implement the policy of collective punishment.

The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club illustrated that the IPS tended to prevent detainees from the basic needs ( water, food, medical care and electricity), in addition, they have been attacked by intensive beating through storming their sections.

One of the most dangerous procedures is denying detainees’ right to medical care and refusing to move them to hospitals.

The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club stated that there is an actual fear of disease spread due to refusing throwing waste from cells, cutting water for long periods. Moreover, IPS confiscated the cloths of detainees and kept only one piece for each detainee, and prevented them from using bathrooms that have shower.

The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club confirmed that detainees are living difficult conditions and being subjected to the most intensive collective punishment since decades. The number of detainees raised due to the escalation in daily arrests, which led to overcrowding in all prisons.

The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club called on the ICRC to put an end to these crimes.

Within a new escalation against detainees in Israeli prisons
“The Israeli Prison Service informs detainees to keep only two pieces of clothing, in preparation for confiscating all belongings”

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs stated that the IPS escalated its attacks against detainees in Israeli prisons, where detainees have been informed to keep only two pieces of clothing, in preparation for confiscating all clothes, covers and belongings.

The Commission pointed out that this procedure reflects the seriousness of the scheme implemented by the IPS to retaliate against detainees, which is supported by the fascist minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir.

The Commission warned of the policy of targeting conducted by the IPS, where the lives of our detainees turned into hell, as they live in closed cell and they are deprived of all their rights.

The commission indicated that this retaliatory action is represented in confiscating clothes, depriving them of water, reducing food shares, confiscating electric appliances and isolating some leaders of the Captive Movement.

The Commission called on the ICRC to visit prisons immediately and put an end to these violations that contradict all international charters and all principles of International Humanitarian Law and international agreements.

Statement issued by the Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Society Prisoner’s Club on the case of administrative detainee Kayed Fasfous

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Society Prisoner’s Club announced that the administrative detainee Kayed Fasfous has suspended his hunger strike, which lasted for (75) days in a row, protesting against his administrative detention.

This came after receiving a call from his family through the advocate of the commission, who visited him at Ramla Prison. Their call came out of fear of assassinating him by the Israeli authorities, in the light of aggression mounted by the occupation forces against our people and detainees who are facing collective retaliatory measures since October 7, 2023.

The Commission and Prisoner’s Club confirmed that Fasfous, who conducted a struggle with his empty stomach against the crime of administrative detention, has been totally isolated and wasn’t informed about the incidents outside, due to the strict isolation conditions in the clinic of Alramla prison.

In this context, the Commission and the Prisoner’s Club confirmed that the battle conducted by Fasfous represents our continuous struggle against the occupation and its crimes, and that with his strong determination he recorded a victory for the determination of our people and detainees.

It is worth mentioning that he will appear before the court on October 18, 2023, in the Supreme Court of the occupation , to consider the petition submitted by the Commission’s lawyer.
