Terrible testimonies and information on the unprecedented systematic crimes committed against detainees in Israeli prisons

Statement issued by Detainees’ Institutions

 Ramallah
 October 28, 2023

Detainees’ institutions stated that the level of systematic crimes implemented by the IPS against detainees after the 7th of October are very terrible, and reflect what we have confirmed after the martyrdom of detainees Omar Daraghmeh and Arafat Hamdan, which is the existence of a systematic decision to assassinate detainees through torture and abusive measures in the light of the mass aggression against our people and the genocide in Gaza Strip.

Detainees’ Institutions stated that they tried many times to visit detainees in Israeli prisons, but the IPS tended to put obstacles on lawyers visits.
However , lawyers were able to make limited visits to some prisons and confirmed that detainees are subjected to brutal attacks on their way to meet the lawyers.

Detainees’ Institutions confirmed that the extent of crimes and collective attacks against detainees which are conducted while storming sections and rooms have been escalated recently.
Moreover, the IPS tended to use the policy of starvation, where they provide detainees with rotten food.

Detainees’ Institutions confirmed that the aggression against detainees didn’t actually begin on the 7th of October, as detainees are facing constant aggression and retaliatory measures, but the difference now is that the Israeli authorities try to take off all their rights.

Detainees’ Institutions confirmed that their persistent attempts to track detainees issues are implemented hardly and confirmed that the silent attitude of human rights organization is considered as a support of these crimes.

Detainees’ Institutions reviewed the most prominent procedures imposed by the IPS:

 - cut the power off on detainees rooms for long hours

 - used starvation policy, where they confiscated food items from canteens and reduced meals into two each day

 - escalated breaking into sections with armed special forces that conduct brutal attacks, beat, and use sound bombs and tear gas

 - deprived detainees from medical treatment and transfer to hospitals, especially against detainees who have chronic diseases

-left injured detainees without providing first aid

-interrogated detainees and asked about hostages

 - reduced the space of each detainee inside the cells, where more than 10 detainees are accommodated in the same cell

-moved many detainees to individual cells, such as the detainee Marah Bakeer who is isolated since 20 days

 - imposed duplicated isolation against detainees, and separated sections

 - confiscated televisions and all electric appliances, as well as destroyed their belongings and confiscated their clothes , covers and shoes

 - installed jamming devices

 - stopped family visits

 -stopped lawyers visits

-prevented going out to the prison’s yard

The Israeli Prison Service abuses minor detainees as a tool of revenge

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs revealed in a report issued today the details of restrictions and punishments imposed against minors at Damoun prison since the beginning of war on Gaza , aiming at taking revenge from detainees.

The Commission stated that the IPS imposed a series of sanctions against minors, without taking into consideration their young age and physiological conditions. Besides, they have been isolated from the outside world and prevented them from using the phone, deprived them of family and lawyers visit and confiscated all electrical appliances.

Moreover, they emptied rooms from tables, chairs, food items and closed the canteen, as well as they tended to provide just two meals at 11:00 am and 5:00 pm, and destroyed the kitchen to prevent detainees from preparing meals.

Furthermore, the chief of the prison informed the detainees that they canceled the recognition of sections’ representatives, where each detainee is responsible for himself, which gives the prisons’ administration the permission to impose unsanctioned punishments against detainees.

The Commission stated that the Israeli authorities tended to escalate beat and torture during arrest and interrogation, where several minor detainees have been subjected to intensive beat and long hours of interrogation as well as threats to arrest family members in order to force them confess guilt.

The martyrdom of the detainee Omar Daraghmeh from Tubas in the Israeli prisons

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Society Prisoner’s Club: we consider the martyrdom of any detainee amid the mass aggression against our people and the genocide in Gaza represents an assassination

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and Palestinian Society Prisoner’s Club announced the martyrdom of the detainee Omar Hamza Hasan Daraghmeh, 58, from Tubas city, where he was held in Megiddo prison.

The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club stated that the occupation forces have arrested Daraghmeh on October,9 and sentenced him to 6 months of administrative detention. He was married and a father of three sons and a daughter.

The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club stated in a joint report that he attended a court session through video conference, where he was held at Megiddo Prison, and the session was also attended by his lawyer Ashraf Abu Snainah at Ofer military court, who confirmed that the detainee is in good health.

Based on the lawyer’s statements and the testimony of new detainees who were subjected to torture and beat during their way to the court, or room of the video conference, and based on the information provided to us about abuse against detainees, we are afraid of the martyrdom of other detainees, and here we are today announcing the martyrdom of Daraghmeh.

The narrative of the occupation was and still doubtful, where they create many stories on the conditions of martyrdom of detainees in an attempt to disclaim their crimes. We consider any martyrdom case in Israeli prisons in the light of the mass aggression and genocide in Gaza as an assassination.

The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club said that the Israeli authorities must be held accountable for this crime, which started with arresting him under administrative detention without any charge or trial, just as hundreds of our people.

It is worth mentioning that (6000) detainees are currently held in Israeli prisons, after the increasing arrest campaigns which began on October 7, including (50) women and (1600) administrative detainees. With the martyrdom of the detainee Daraghmeh, the number of the martyrs of the Captive Movement since 1967 rises to (238) , where the occupation authorities still withholding (11) remains.
