The martyrdom of the detainee Omar Daraghmeh from Tubas in the Israeli prisons

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Society Prisoner’s Club: we consider the martyrdom of any detainee amid the mass aggression against our people and the genocide in Gaza represents an assassination

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and Palestinian Society Prisoner’s Club announced the martyrdom of the detainee Omar Hamza Hasan Daraghmeh, 58, from Tubas city, where he was held in Megiddo prison.

The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club stated that the occupation forces have arrested Daraghmeh on October,9 and sentenced him to 6 months of administrative detention. He was married and a father of three sons and a daughter.

The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club stated in a joint report that he attended a court session through video conference, where he was held at Megiddo Prison, and the session was also attended by his lawyer Ashraf Abu Snainah at Ofer military court, who confirmed that the detainee is in good health.

Based on the lawyer’s statements and the testimony of new detainees who were subjected to torture and beat during their way to the court, or room of the video conference, and based on the information provided to us about abuse against detainees, we are afraid of the martyrdom of other detainees, and here we are today announcing the martyrdom of Daraghmeh.

The narrative of the occupation was and still doubtful, where they create many stories on the conditions of martyrdom of detainees in an attempt to disclaim their crimes. We consider any martyrdom case in Israeli prisons in the light of the mass aggression and genocide in Gaza as an assassination.

The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club said that the Israeli authorities must be held accountable for this crime, which started with arresting him under administrative detention without any charge or trial, just as hundreds of our people.

It is worth mentioning that (6000) detainees are currently held in Israeli prisons, after the increasing arrest campaigns which began on October 7, including (50) women and (1600) administrative detainees. With the martyrdom of the detainee Daraghmeh, the number of the martyrs of the Captive Movement since 1967 rises to (238) , where the occupation authorities still withholding (11) remains.
