🔴 In light of new testimonies on attacking detainee Abdullah Barghouthi with intense beat in Shatta prison

🔴 The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Society Prisoner’s Club hold the occupation fully accountable for his fate

July 24, 2024

Ramallah
The Commission of Detainees’ and the Palestinian Society Prisoner’s Club hold the IPS fully accountable on the fate and life of detainee Abdullah Barghouthi, detained since 2003 and sentenced to (67) terms of life imprisonment. This came in light of new testimonies from detainees who were liberated recently, and confirmed that he was attacked by special forces in Shatta prison, causing him fractures in the chest.

The commission and the club considered what happened to Barghouthi and other leader detainees is an actual attempt of assassination, pointing out that the IPS has targeted leaders the of Captive Movement through torture, isolation, transfer and continuous abuse, in addition to the obstruction of lawyers visits, where the IPS has rejected the lawyers request three times.

The Commission and the Club stated that the testimony of attacking Barghouthi is among several initial testimonies documented by detainees’ organizations throughout liberated detainees or detainees who were visited by the legal teams. It has been pointed out that these testimonies convey more heartbreaking details every time, as lawyers’ visits are conducted under high supervision, where detainees can’t narrate everything they are subjected to. These testimonies constitute another kind of genocide against our people.

Despite the passage of (290) days of genocide, the extent of crimes and procedures imposed on detainees, besides the torture, starvation and medical crimes, constituted the main reason for the martyrdom of detainees since the beginning of genocide.

In this context, the Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club confirm that the current policies with all crimes and brutality committed against detainees are systematic historical policies practiced by the occupation over long decades, but the only variable is related to the unprecedented intensity.

It is worth mentioning that the detainee Barghouthi was exposed to harsh and long interrogation which lasted for several months after his detention in 2003. He also was exposed to isolation that lasted for many years. During his detention, he released many books in which he talked about his struggle against the occupation.

Detainees’ organizations renew their calls to all human rights organizations to conduct an independent investigation in light of the escalation in crimes and collective genocide against our people in Gaza, and put an end to the unprecedented and escalated crimes committed against detainees in Israeli prisons and to restore their actual and necessary role in confronting the brutality of occupation supported by global powers that neglect the humanitarian community and the voices of free people around the world.

🔴 *Statement issued by the preparatory committee of the Global Day of support for Gaza and Detainees*

🔴 *To the people of our nation in Palestine and diaspora, and the world’s free people, we address you with all hope in our and your strength , with loyalty to our detainees and prisoners and your loyalty to us, for a free Palestine*

The third of August 2024 has been decided to be a national and global day for the support of Gaza and detainees, based on our belief that detainees and Gaza are the origin of our unity and victory. This day will mark a continuous popular movement taking us to a new stage in which the square will be our place of expression for our will and beliefs in our just cause. We will activate all available sources, represented in the support of free people, to force this world to take serious actions to stop the ongoing genocide since months against our people in Gaza and to save our detainees from a second type of genocide.

The occupation’s crimes surpassed the scope of imagination since the beginning of genocide broadcasted live, in which the occupying soldiers films criminal scenes and brag about this, in implementation of his leaders’ instructions, who also brag about killing us, where they announce this in front of the cameras, without taking into consideration the whole humanity. They act as if they are above the law, having extraordinary immunity provided by the American veto, which encounters any decision that holds practical content. They are exempted from punishment and we are exempted from normal life and death.
The genocide were not commenced on October 7th, but rather, the ongoing genocide is an extension of continuous Nakba against our people. Over the past decades, the humanitarian world failed to achieve justice and freedom for our people, and the world failed to stop the genocide against children, women, elderly and fetuses in the wombs of their mothers.

All this was supported by the major powers in the world, whose ministers race to protect Israel and create new policies to erase the existence of the Palestinian people.
However, we appreciate the role of free people around the world who proved the spirit and meaning of freedom historically, presently and in the future.

The step taken by South Africa delivered a real message of free people around the world and a sample of cross border human solidarity, besides all the countries that supported and taken obvious actions to support our right to self-determination, foremost among them the countries that recognized the State of Palestine.

Furthermore, the advisory opinion issued by the highest judicial authority in the world, the International Court of Justice, also delivered the voice of the world's free people who believe in our just cause and our right to freedom, independence and self determination.

To stop the ongoing genocide against our people, the freedom of Palestine and our detainees, we address our nation,as a national and ethical obligation, to go to all squares under the title of solidarity to Gaza and Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons. Let’s go with all our strength and faith and determination to break the silence and inaction. Let’s rage be our slogan.

*Our demands to the world’s free people:*

- Impose immediate military embargo on Israel, including importing, exporting and transfer of weapons and military equipment that have dual use, and stop all forms of military cooperation ( training, joint research, investments, etc).
- Impose legal sanctions on Israel, including diplomatic, financial and economic sanctions.
- End all forms of complicity with Israel’s illegal Israeli military occupation and the most brutal genocide, where the main cause of all these things: the colonial and apartheid regime ongoing since 76 years.
- Reactivate the UN’s special committee against apartheid to help ending the apartheid regime in Israel and hold the perpetrators accountable.
