Two prisoners at Gilboa Prison suffer from deliberate medical neglect and harsh detention conditions
November 4, 2026
The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs revealed in a report issued today, Wednesday, that two prisoners at Gilboa Prison are experiencing serious health problems amid deteriorating detention conditions, medical neglect, and the systematic policy of starvation in Israeli occupation prisons.
Prisoner Raed Saleh Hassan Abu Hassan suffers from a blood clot in the retina of his right eye, which developed before his arrest. He had been receiving treatment outside the prison through monthly eye injections. However, following his arrest in 2022, the prison administration discontinued the necessary injections nearly three years ago, leading to a deterioration in the condition of his eye.
In addition, Abu Hassan suffers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left leg and high blood pressure, for which he takes medication regularly. He is also allergic to dairy products. Despite this, the prison administration continues to provide him with food containing labneh, without offering a suitable alternative meal, despite his requests. As a result, he has lost approximately 40 kilograms.
During a visit by the Commission’s lawyer, the prisoner also reported that he suffers from impaired vision.
In a related case, prisoner Osama Issa Bani Fadel suffers from ulcerative colitis and a protrusion of part of his intestine. He requested that the prison administration provide him with special meals suitable for his condition, but his request was ignored.
