Isolated prisoner Bushra Al-Taweel endures extremely harsh detention conditions, both mentally and physically

November 4, 2026

The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs revealed in a report issued on Wednesday that Palestinian prisoner Bushra Al-Taweel, from the city of Al-Bireh, is facing extremely harsh detention and humanitarian conditions. She continues to be held in solitary confinement and transferred between several prisons, while being denied the most basic necessities of human life. Her physical and psychological health has deteriorated significantly amid severe shortages of food, clothing and essential supplies.

Al-Taweel has been held under administrative detention since February 5, 2026.

The prisoner is currently serving her solitary confinement term at Ohaley Oz Prison in Beersheba, specifically in Section 6, which is designated for solitary confinement. She is held there entirely alone, further exacerbating her psychological suffering.

The prisoner informed the Commission’s lawyer that the Damon Prison administration placed her in solitary confinement on August 17, 2026. She was then transferred to Neve Tirza Prison in Ramla on August 23, where she remained until October 7, 2026, before being transferred to Ohaley Oz Prison, where she remains to this day.

She does not even know the reason for her isolation, which was renewed on November 2, 2026, for an additional month.

She is suffering from what the Commission described as deliberate medical neglect. She said that her body is covered in dark spots as a result of contracting scabies while held at Damon Prison.

She is also suffering from tendon inflammation in both her hands and feet, causing persistent pain and suffering that intensifies during the cold nights. Meanwhile, the prison administration deliberately refuses to provide her with winter blankets.

The prisoner reported that she has repeatedly requested to be examined at the so-called “prison clinic” to obtain the necessary painkillers and undergo medical examinations. However, the prison administration has ignored her appeals.

Her suffering is compounded by the ongoing policy of starvation and the poor quality and quantity of food provided. She has lost 16 kilograms since her arrest.

Her hardship is further aggravated by severe shortages of clothing and personal necessities. She confirmed that she has only one change of clothes to wear, in addition to her prayer clothes, with no alternative clothing available.

She explained that she is forced to wash the clothes she is wearing by hand using only soap, then wait for them to dry. This sometimes forces her to miss her time in the prison yard because she has no other clothes to wear while her clothes are being washed.
