A delegation from the Democratic Socialist Union in the European Parliament is briefed on the detainees' situations in the Israeli jails
The chairman of the Commission of Detainees'' Affairs, Issa Qaraqe', meets a delegation from the Democratic Socialist Union in the European Parliament on Tuesday evening.
He briefed the delegation on the situation of detainees in occupation jails, pointing out that the Israeli laws and procedures applied against detainees constitute a real tragedy for all human values, a violation of the UN resolutions and Human Rights principles.
Qaraqe' reviewed with the delegation, which includes experts and members of the European Parliament, a series of violations committed by the occupation government against Palestinian detainees, such as: the continued administrative detention, arresting minors, arresting deputies, using torture methods against detainees and applying the policy of medical negligence.
He explained the importance of the European Parliament and its efforts in sending fact-finding committees to the Israeli prisons, exposing the inhumane practices against Palestinian detainees and stopping the agreements and partnerships with the Israeli government.
Qaraqe' pointed out that since 1967, Israeli did not allow any fact- finding committee to enter its prisons, and this requires more pressure from the European Parliament on the Israeli side to release all detainees and end their suffering.
The delegation condemned the practices of the occupation authorities against Palestinian detainees especially minors, sick and administrative detainees, which contradict the international laws and the principles of human rights. They confirmed that the cause of Palestinian detainees has a special interest from the European Parliament. The members of the delegation also stressed on the need to end the suffering of the Palestinian people and establishing its independent state.
