*Detainee Ahmad Saifi narrowly escapes certain death*

September 2, 2024

The lawyer of the commission managed to visit detainee Ahmad Deeb Hasan Saifi, 34, from Birzeit/ Ramallah, who exits in Remon prison, after 10 months of interruption.
Saifi recounted horrific details that affected his life, including torture methods that the human mind cannot comprehend, which resulted in fractures in right hand, both shoulders, rib cage and bruises in the head.

The lawyer quoted Saifi: “on October 15, 2023, while I was in Negev prison, Yamam, Metsada and keter special forces entered the section and started to beat me intensively until I lost consciousness. I woke up after two hours and lost memory for 24 hours. When I regained my memory, the director of the prison informed the jailers that I am the representative of Hamas inside the prison, where they started to beat me on the head for 10 minutes “.

“On October 26, 2023, soldiers with their dogs stormed our room and handcuffed me with other 9 detainees. They abused and beat us in a brutal manner and then left me alone in the room. One of the jailers stepped on my neck, then a unit of special forces entered accompanied by an officer, putting an M16 machine gun towards my head saying:(Should we kill you or will you commit suicide by yourself? This term is always repeated during every attack against me. Then, 8 guards started beating me severely while I was on the ground. One of them lifted my hands, which were cuffed, and broke my shoulder so that it was pushed forward. They twisted my arms from behind my back to the front, over my head, and down to the ground. They then returned me to the room and continued to assault me, causing chest fractures. I wasn’t able to stand up, they dragged me on the ground and put me and other detainees on top of each other in a bathroom of 1.5 meters. They brought in dogs and filmed us”.

The lawyer of the commission confirmed that the abuse did not stop there. On November 15, 2023, jailers of keter unit attacked Saifi and beat him brutally with iron sticks, causing wounds on his head, fractures in his right hand, with bones out of his skin that caused a bleeding. They transferred him to the clinic and made stitches and then returned him to the room. Afterwards, another unit of special forces entered his room, spraying him with gas 8 times and transferring him to the solitary confinement, leaving him without food or water.
He was transferred next day from the cell to the bathroom. He was shocked when he found that the toilet’s floor is covered with broken glass, as the jailer forced him to walk barefoot on the broken glass. He remained 14 days walking on it for long hours.

Saifi concluded his testimony “on November 29, 2023, an officer threw me to the ground and jumped on my back trying to break it, during transferring me to Remon prison”.
It is worth mentioning that Saifi was detained on August 19, 2009, and sentenced to 19 years and 7 months.
