Detainees lost thousands of kilograms due to the policy of hunger pursued by the Israeli authorities

 February 21, 2024

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs warned of pursuing the policy of hunger by Israel through the IPS against detainees, which affected detainees who lost thousands of kilograms of their weights.
The commission emphasized that each detainee has lost 15-25 kgs of his weight, which demonstrates the seriousness of this policy, that have negative implications on their lives and bodies.

The commission said that reducing the quantity of food , the poor quality of served food, the method of preparation and the deliberate polluting of it will make their bodies an incubators of viruses and diseases, and detainees will face complicated health conditions soon. The number of sick detainees increased, and the policy of hunger became a means of punishment since October 7. This coincided with depriving sick detainees of medical care and medicine, and also coincided with the cold weather that has additional negative effects.

In the same context, the legal team of the commission affirmed on the unethical and inhumane treatment against detainees by the IPS, where they intended to target the humanity of Palestinians detainees by through the deliberate insult and humiliation. The IPS officers and soldiers forced detainees to kneel, cursed, blackmailed and provoked them, as they focused on the verbal insults especially cursing their mothers and sisters in addition to blasphemy.

The commission called on to stop these crimes and violations against our detractors , and intervene immediately to oblige Israel to comply with international laws in dealing with detainees , being detainees of liberation movements as all international charters and agreements apply to them.
