Ramallah The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Society Prisoner’s Club announced the martyrdom of the leader detainee Khaled Mousa Jamal Shawish, 53, from Aqqaba village/ Tubas. He was one of tye leaders of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, and was exposed to gunshot by the Israeli army in 2001 which led to paralysis. He continued resisting the occupation after his injury until he got arrested in 2007 and sentenced to life imprisonment. The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club stated in joint statement today that Shawish was subjected to several medical crimes over the years of his detention, as his health condition was a real evidence on medical crimes against sick detainees in Israeli jails, where he spent most of his detention in the so-called “clinic of Al-Ramla prison “, in which many of his colleagues had martyred over the past years. He has been transferred from the clinic to Remon prison and then transferred to Nafaha prison after the 7th of October. The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club confirmed that he was exposed to several crimes since his detention and faced a cruel interrogation at the beginning of his arrest, which led to the deterioration of his health condition. However, the IPS pursued giving him painkillers due to the severe pains he had. Years ago, he fell down from the wheelchair that led to breaking the platinum in his hand, and his health got worse after having a surgery in Soroka Hospital and had poisoning. The martyrdom of Shawish today confirms the grave danger faced by hundreds of sick detainees in Israeli jails, especially after October 7, in the light in escalating torture, abuse, hunger, isolation and medical ignorance, which was a main cause of the martyrdom of detainees over the past decades. The Commission and the Prisoner’s Club stated that the IPS holds full responsibility towards the martyrdom of the detainee Shawish, the ninth detainee to die after October 7 in the Israeli jails, besides the detainee Mohammad Abu Snainah, who passed away in Hadassa Hospital, raising the number of Captive Movement martyrs to (247).
